Fernwood Retention Dams

New Retention dams

The addition of the two retention dams in Phase II has substantially enhanced the overall views from the stands in this phase and indigenous re-growth is encouraging birdlife and small wildlife back to the area.

The showhouse on Stand No 2 is nearing completion and consists of:

  • 2 bedrooms (en-suite) on the first level, and the kitchen, scullery, dining room and lounge lead out to the covered braai patio which will have a wrap—around deck to enhance the entertainment area.
  • There is also a double garage and rear kitchen courtyard. The property is being finished to a high quality standard and will be an excellent investment for anyone requiring a brand new holiday home within the security of this pristine estate. The views from the master suite as well as the lounge entertainment areas of the show houses are of the Featherbed to Heads section of the Lagoon.

Show House Plot 2

The design of showhouse on Stand no 1 in this phase is also now in progress and this residence will be a three bedroomed home.

Additional dams for Phase II

The formation of two new water collection dams along the lower edge of Phase II is taking shape well under  Landscaper, Anton Louw’s careful eye.

The retention dam above the entrance road naturally flows down a weir and then under the entrance road and into Phase II.    To further control the water collection from the Estate two further collection dams are being created with natural flows through the contours of the land.    Dam No 1 has been excavated and is naturally clay-based. With  recent rains this new dam has filled well and the embankment is being shaped.    Dam No 2 will follow as soon as the stonework channels have been completed which will control the natural flow from one dam to the other, taking the water down and out of the Estate.

The benefit of this creative landscaping is that water flow is correctly routed and after the  surrounding banks have been replanted, they will attract the abundant bird life that is familiar with this area and provide a pleasing natural viewpoint for the stands on the upper contours of this phase.
